Advanced Strength Training (AST)

The Performance Institute’s Advanced Strength Training course aims to teach trainers and sports coaches the correct execution of Advanced Strength Training techniques along with the application of Advanced Strength Training Theory.

If you have the desire to be a strength and conditioning coach or would like to establish yourself as personal trainer who specializes in performance based training the AST course is for you!


The Performance Training Institute offers 3 levels of AST accreditation:

  • • Advanced Strength Training I
  • • Advanced Strength Training II
  • • Kettlebell Training and Conditioning

AST for Personal Trainers

The AST curriculum will teach you

  • • Foundation “Functional” exercises (squat, front squat & dead lift variations)
  • • Olympic Style Lifting
  • • Unilateral Lifting
  • • AST Theory and Programming

Course Objectives

Upon completion of the AST for Personal Trainers courses you will:


  • • Know the basic Olympic Style Lifts in full, variations and progressions
  • • Understand the specialist techniques involved in performing the lifts safely and effectively
  • • Have a thorough understanding of how to teach clients to perform the lifts
  • • Know all the assistant exercises that improve the Olympic Style Lifts
  • • Know how to break down the major lifts and perform and teach every individual component
  • • Understand the importance of performing the individual components to improve overall performance
  • • Know how to integrate Olympic Style Lifts into training sessions and design new Olympic Lifting programs
  • • Unilateral and functional exercises
  • • Program Design, Exercise Prescription, long term Athlete Development and Periodisation
